Poll: 61% of Israeli public supports haredi draft now

The majority of the Israeli public does not support the government's plan for gradual enlistment of haredim into army and civil service, a poll conducted by the Smith Institute for Hiddushm found.

The poll found that 61 percent of the general public, and 66% of the non-haredi population believes haredi enlistment into the IDF or national service should be done now, rather than in four years as the government plan proposes.

Five-hundred Israeli adults were surveyed in an internet poll on April 10.

Hiddush is an NGO promoting religious freedom and equality in Israel.
