Horowitz praises mehadrin bus ruling: 'Israel is not Iran'

MK Nitzan Horowitz of Meretz welcomed a Supreme Court decision Thursday approving gender-segregated buses "according to free will," saying: "The decision to cancel the forced separation of genders and humiliation on buses is a victory to freedom and sanity in Israel."

He added: "The court reached the only possible decision in a democracy: Everyone has the right to sit wherever he or she chooses on the bus, and the it is the responsibility of the bus line operators to prevent harassment, coercion or violence against any passengers on the bases of gender separation. The bus companies and Transportation Ministry must swiftly act in accordance with the ruling. Israel is not, and shall not be, Iran."
