Clashes between local tribesmen and foreign militants have left up 160 dead this week in northwestern Pakistan, including about 130 Uzbek and Chechen fighters, the provincial governor said Friday. Gov. Ali Mohammed Jan Aurakzai, the top government official in North West Frontier Province, said between 25 and 30 tribesmen had died in clashes that started Monday in South Waziristan tribal region and were continuing Friday. He denied allegations that Pakistani security forces were supporting the tribesmen to root out the foreign militants - believed linked to al-Qaida.
