Organs of woman killed in tragic accident save lives of five people

A 35-year-old woman tragically killed on her way to the hospital for fertility treatments on Tuesday saved the lives of five others after her family agreed to donate her organs.
Einat Zamir, of Modi’in, the mother of a seven-year-old boy, had suffered six miscarriages over four years while trying to get pregnant again and was undergoing fertility treatments at Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center.
She was run over by a car while crossing at a crosswalk on her way to a treatment.
Zamir was rushed to Hadassah University Medical Center in Jerusalem’s Ein Kerem, where doctors could not save her. When she stopped breathing, her heart was transplanted into a 33-year-old woman in Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer; her lungs were given to a 64-year-old woman at the Rabin Medical Center- Beilinson Campus, where her liver also was transplanted into a 58-year-old man at the same Petah Tikva hospital.
One kidney was given to a 44-year-old man who had waited 14 years for a transplant, also at Beilinson, while the other kidney and her pancreas were donated to a 28-year-old woman at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center.
Einat always said that if something happened to her, we should donate her organs, her husband, Ariel, said.
