Jerusalem police detained six east Jerusalem Hamas activists on Sunday in the Old City who were planning on holding a press conference and campaigning for the upcoming Palestinian elections, police said. Two of the men detained assaulted the police officers who detained them. While Israel has allowed Jerusalem Arabs to take part in the upcoming Palestinian elections, campaigning by Hamas and Islamic Jihad activists were strictly forbidden.
