Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said on Saturday that he would continue his efforts to bring about the release of Cpl. Gilad Shalit who was kidnapped two months ago by a group associated with Hamas. Meeting with Meretz Chairman Yossi Beilin, Abbas said that he was encouraged by recent polls showing that most of the Israeli public supported a permanent agreement with the Palestinians, rather than a unilateral move.
