MK Danny Yatom (Labor) asserted on Wednesday that since Labor Chairman Amir Peretz could serve as prime minister, then he could serve as defense minister as well.
The statement, given in an Army Radio interview, came in response to the prospects of Peretz, in spite of only having the rank of captain, being assigned to the Defense Ministry.
Yatom himself had a rich military career and was previously considered to be one of the Labor candidates for defense minister, had the position been offered.
