Immigrant Absorption Minister Ya'acov Edri warned the government on Thursday that cutting the budget designated for new immigrants to Israel would be a mistake. "Harming new olim will damage the existence of the state of Israel because olim are vital to the country," Edri told immigrant groups at an emergency meeting. He called on the Finance Ministry and the government to cancel the plans to make cuts to the ministry in 2008.
