The Junior Lecturers Union will join the senior lecturers in a nationwide strike of the public universities next Tuesday. The junior lecturers had been discussing the issue with the Senior Lecturers Union for some days before deciding on Tuesday that they would join the committee in their strike for one day. Senior university lecturers rejected the offer to appoint an arbitrator to settle their wage dispute with the government. The lecturers are seeking a new collective wage agreement that will restore some of the value of their salaries lost to wage negotiations since 2001.
