President Moshe Katasav has transferred NIS 1.5 million from his discretionary fund to a Pessah food drive for the hungry. The president was spurred by extensive media coverage of the plight of the nation's por, the ever-increasing numbers of hungry families and complaints of lack of funds by non-profit organizations dedicated to helping the impoverished. Some 750 families recommended by social welfare authorities will receive NIS 2,000 each to buy food.
