Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni warned of international recognition of Hamas in a New York Sun interview published Friday morning. The warning followed remarks by Russian president Vladimir Putin, who said that Russia would hold official contacts with Hamas. According to Livni, there was a "slippery slope" effect caused by the tendency of some international actors to compromise with Hamas. She added that any sign of weakness in dealing with Hamas would lead to problematic consequences not only for Israel but also for the Palestinian people.
