Julian Sofir, who has been charged with murdering an Arab taxi driver four months ago, is competent to stand trial, according to psychiatric evaluations based on medical treatment he received. Sofir, 25, a French immigrant, was arrested in May for allegedly killing Tayseer Karaki on nationalistic grounds. Sofir confessed to the murder. Following seemingly irrational behavior in court, Sofir was sent for psychiatric examination.
