Olmert, Rice discuss Gaza humanitarian situation

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert spoke with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Sunday afternoon, who requested an update on the situation in Gaza and expressed concern over the deterioration of humanitarian conditions as well as the security situation. Olmert told her that Israel was taking all necessary steps to facilitate the speedy release of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit and would use all means within its power to achieve this goal. He also pointed out that the Palestinians had not stopped firing Kassams at Israeli targets and causing thousands of Israelis to suffer.
