In his first meeting with the IDF's general staff, Defense Minister Amir Peretz said on Monday that he saw himself as the "defensive wall" of the defense establishment both in the public sphere and relating to the government's budget policy. Peretz added that he was committed "first and foremost" to the welfare of the IDF. He emphasized that he would demand a change in the procedures for deciding the IDF's budget, shifting from annual budgets to multi-year plans.
