Minister without Portfolio Haim Ramon (Labor) on Wednesday publicly announced that he would join Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's new National Responsibility party. According to Ramon, the name, though tentative, reflects the nature of the new party. The former Labor party minister expressed sadness over leaving his traditional party, but emphasized that he acted according to his beliefs. In his address he blasted the situation, as he saw it, in which political leaders do not act in accordance with the platform on which they were elected. He could not understand how a prime minister could be supported by the opposition, while his own party tried to overthrow him. Ramon stated his goal of having a "real political map," in which there would be a right, far right, left, far left, and a center party that represents the majority of the public, and where the voters know whom they have elected.
