Egypt detains Bat Yam man upon his arrival to the country; Foreign Ministry: We are making efforts to find more details.

A 23 year-old Israeli man was detained in Egypt on Friday for unknown reasons, Army Radio reported Monday.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed that Andre Pshenichnikov from Bat Yam was detained upon arrival to the country, and said that it is making efforts to find out more details.

Pshenichnikov's mother told Army Radio that her son got a visa to enter Egypt last week, and was scheduled to meet friends from France in Cairo.

The man was reportedly a left-wing activist, who lived in the Palestinian territories and was denied a request for Palestinian citizenship.

In June 2011, US-Israeli citizen Ilan Grapel was jailed in Egypt over charges of espionage. He was released in October 2011 in a deal mediated by the United States in exchange for 25 non-security Egyptian prisoners who were held in Israeli prison.
