Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will participate in the annual World Economic Forum in Davos at the end of January, the first Israeli prime minster to take part in that influential event in years.

Netanyahu will address a special plenary session on Israel’s economy, and discuss Israel’s cyber industry, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.

He is expected to hold a number of meetings with heads of state and business leaders interested in Israel’s hi-tech sector. The forum will be held January 22-25.

“The Israeli economy has been successful in the face of the global economic crisis and is continuing to show high growth and low unemployment,” Netanyahu said in accepting an invitation to attend the parley. “Participation in the World Economic Forum will allow us to showcase the achievements of the Israeli economy to the entire world. I believe that the attention which the Israeli cyber and hi-tech industries will receive at the forum will assist in strengthening their status as global leaders.”

The last most memorable “Israeli moment” at the Davos forum came in 2009, days after Operation Cast Lead, when Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan demonstratively stormed off the stage during a session with President Shimon Peres.
