The opposition parties in the Knesset announced Sunday that they would be boycotting the vote on three contentious bills which the government is attempting to pass this week - the referendum bill, the haredi draft bill and the electoral threshold bill.

The opposition parties met at Labor Party headquarters, deciding to take the steps after their demands to hold three-day discussions of each bill in the Knesset were rejected.

While the government holds one-day discussions of the bills in the Knesset, the opposition parties plan to hold separate parallel discussions.

"Despite the fact that this is not a homogenous opposition, we are all united in the struggle to preserve democracy," a joint statement from the opposition parties read. "This is a weak and hysterical coalition in which no one trusts his partners and they try to pass major laws through political brutality."
