Examinations to be conducted Thursday as part of activities for World Voice Day.

Free tests to diagnose vocal health problems is to be offered on Thursday at the Rabin Medical Center-Beilinson Campus in Petah Tikva as part of activities of World Voice Day.

The day is held globally on April 16, but it was postponed in Israel because of Passover.

The events are meant to encourage young and old to assess their vocal health and take action to improve or maintain good habits. People in certain professions who must use their voice a lot, including teachers, have higher risks for vocal disease.

Between 9 a.m. and noon, the hospital’s ear-nose-and-throat department will offer examinations for early diagnoses of diseases of the vocal cords, on the first floor in the outpatient clinic by leading otolaryngologists including Prof. Jacob Shviro, the head of the vocal disorders service, Dr. Yaniv Hamzany and Dr. Aviram Mizrahi.

The tests are not only free, but no referral is required from one’s health fund.

Shviro said many people live with hoarseness and other vocal problems but don’t go to the doctor to find the cause.

“There are conditions that indicate malignant tumors,” he said, and early treatment is urgent.
