A 26-year-old man from Bat Yam was arrested Thursday on suspicion of imprisoning his girlfriend and their two children, aged two and four, and sexually assaulting and beating the girlfriend on a daily basis over the course of a year.
Police said that the man left the house unlocked went he went to work Thursday, and the woman managed to escape and tell her neighbors, who then called the police.
Over the course of an entire year, the woman and the two children allegedly never left house, police said. The man would allegedly lock the door each day when he went to work, trapping the family inside.
He would do a grocery shopping run once a month, according to the woman. The children were also not registered for any school or day care. Police said the children did not appear to be malnourished.
The man is being held on sexual assault and rape charges until Tuesday.
Police were also questioning him on suspicion of false imprisonment and child abuse.
