North Korea said on Friday it is investigating an American who had entered the country as a tourist on April 29 for violating the country's laws.
The US citizen had conducted activities inappropriate for the purpose of his visit on tourism, the North's official KCNA news agency said. It gave no other details.
Earlier on Friday, Japan's Kyodo news agency reported that North Korea had detained a US citizen in mid-May, bringing the number of Americans being held by the reclusive state to three. The Kyodo report quoted unidentified diplomatic sources.
