There is something comforting about a restaurant like Olive & Fish, who do what they do well in an understated way. In this case, it's grilled fresh fish and meat.
Although there are many fine restaurants dotted around Jerusalem, not too many boast a prime location on upscale Jabotinsky Street overlooking the splendor of Liberty Bell Park and the chic Inbal Jerusalem Hotel. The restaurant is also near to the Montefiore Windmill and charming neighborhood of Yemin Moshe.
Patrons can enjoy the view and atmospheric location all year round with a weather-proof covered patio looking on to the park and street. Olive & Fish is popular with locals in the know and also with tourists, many of whom come from the nearby string of hotels.
The kosher menu features European-style dishes with a Middle Eastern, Mediterranean andinternational flair, and offers a wide selection of appetizers, salads, main courses, desserts and local wines. The menu is seasonal and the chefs prepare the food using fresh, local market produce.
There are fresh fish options such as St. Peter’s fish, Salmon fillet and Denise (Sea Bream) as well as creative vegetarian, chicken and meat dishes such as chicken livers cooked in port wine with pears, and sirloin steak cooked in honey and smoked whiskey sauce. In addition to the daily business lunch (on weekdays between noon and 17:00), Olive & Fish offer daily specials.
Although the restaurant is classy, it is unpretentious and the service is friendly. The stylish dark wooden furniture, dark wooden floors and yellow-tinged lamps set a retro tone and help create a warm atmosphere. There are authentic pictures on the walls of past generations of Jerusalemites and also of the Jerusalem landscape, which make a pleasant touch.
Olive & Fish can host business or personal events in their guest room in the upstairs loft thataccommodates up to 55 guests, and in another private room that holds 30 guests. All in all, it’s a great place to linger over a meal – just make sure to reserve a table in advance.
