1. ‘DARLING COMPANION’

Beth (Diane Keaton) saves a lost dog from the side of the freeway.

Struggling with her self involved husband Joseph (Kevin Kline) and an empty nest, she forms a special bond with the animal.

When Joseph loses the dog after their daughter’s wedding, Beth enlists the help of the few guests in a frantic search. Director Lawrence Kasdan, with Dianne Wiest, Richard Jenkins, Sam Shepard, Mark Duplass, Elisabeth Moss and Ayelet Zorer.

2. A LOOK INTO THE HAREDI WORLD

A new ethnographic exhibition at the Israel Museum, “A World Apart Next Door: Glimpses into the Life of Hassidic Jews,” illustrates the hassidic experience through the rich, complex attire of men, women and children and through objects that have meaning for the community’s social and spiritual life.

Photographs, films and music from life cycle events and rituals offer visitors an opportunity to enter the intriguing world of a vibrant ultra-Orthodox community of today. Through November 30.

3. URI’S LEGACY

The exhibition titled “Backward and Forward” features the works of Uri Lifshitz on the first anniversary of his death. The exhibition is on display at the new Pressler Museum, a private institute established by art collector Yigal Pressler, which will run exhibitions of Israeli artists, as well as theme shows of works from Pressler’s collection.

4. EIGHT WOMEN

Gentle and sad, strong and determined, motherly and powerful – women are the subject of Beit Shmuel’s new exhibition that opens Friday. A group of eight female artists, formed more than 20 years ago, presents their works on the subject of the female model, done together and separately.

5. DOUBLE THE PLEASURE

The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra’s current series features a concert with two very popular classical pieces – Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony and Rossini’s Stabat Mater. With guest conductor Asher Fisch, soprano Serena Farnocchia, mezzo-soprano Rinat Schaham, bass-baritone Simon Orfila and the Gary Bertini Israel Chamber Choir.

6. A WELCOME REUNION

Greg Dulli is back, and this time his fans will enjoy an evening with his original band, the Afghan Whigs. Following a break of 11 years, the rock ensemble reunited for a world tour and arrives in Israel for two concerts at the Barby Club in Tel Aviv.

7. THE WELL-TEMPERED STORM

“The Storming Soloists,” the third concert in the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra’s series Conductors- Soloists in cooperation with the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, features conductor and piano soloist Shalev Ad-El, pianist Shai Wosner, violinist Arnaud Sussmann and cellist Wolfram Koessel. The program includes works by Mozart, Bach and Brahms.

Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art; Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Jerusalem Theater. For tickets and more information, call 1-700-704-000.

8. SEE THE SEA

The sea as a mirror of the soul is the subject of At the Sea, a staged work in Hebrew by Ruth Kener inspired by two stories of Yizhar Smilansky (S.Yizhar): “A Walk by the Sea – a boy and a girl by the Sea of Galilee; and “Swimming in the Sea,” about a drowning man’s struggle with the waves.

9. WHITE DELIGHT

Talented young singer Riff Cohen will be one of the highlights of the White Night celebrations at the newly renovated Jaffa Port. Other attractions include performance group ZIK with its work Kukuzu in the Port and great band Smemel.

MIXED BAG

10. IT’S KOSHER

The kosher food festival returns next month for the fifth time. Open to the public, the festival offers tastings from dozens of kosher restaurants around the country, which will offer dishes for NIS 15 to NIS 35, as well as other family attractions.

July 3-5, at the Netanya Argaman Promenade, from 6 to 11 p.m. Free entrance.
