Authorities arrested 10 Sudanese refugees near Egypt's border with Israel on Friday who were seeking political asylum in the Jewish state, police said.
The group consisted of four couples in their late twenties, including a pregnant woman, and two children, said Capt. Mohammed Badr of the northern Sinai police force.
The refugees told police during interrogation that they paid several hundred dollars per person to Egyptian Bedouins to smuggle them into Israel, Badr said.
After spending one night in the desert with the human traffickers, the Sudanese were driven in a small truck to a border village called Nab'a Shabana, some 7 kilometers south of Rafah border crossing, where they were eventually arrested.
