Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav returned beaming from a successful seven-day fundraising visit to Germany and Canada last week, reports Yediot Haifa. The mayor said it seemed that many mayors had "fallen in love" with Haifa and were more than willing to raise funds for its benefit. According to the report, Yahav first visited Bremen, Haifa's twin city in Germany, where he was guest of honor at a concert attended by 1,400 people. Although the amount raised by the concert was not stated, the proceeds were to be divided equally between a fund for Holocaust survivors and another for public projects in Haifa. Yahav then traveled on to Canada, where he attended a fund-raising event held by the evangelistic community. About $500,000 was raised at that event, all of which will be used for Haifa's benefit. "It looks as though city mayors have fallen in love with Haifa, and we have not stopped getting requests from mayors interested in helping and in volunteering for the good of the city. The requests are coming from everywhere, from Germany, Argentina, the United States, Canada, and other countries," Yahav said.
