Ashdod beach program to employ hundreds of at-risk youth
Some 450 at-risk youth are due to be employed at local beaches in seven municipalities around the country as part of a Labor and Social Services Ministry initiative taking place in July and August.
The ministry announced on Sunday that it had invested NIS 6 million in an expanded version of the Hof Fix program that was established in Ashdod in 2015 and will this year also run in Ashkelon, Bat Yam, Herzliya, Netanya, Hadera and the Hof Carmel Regional Council.
The program is designed to employ young people aged 14 to 25 who come from diverse backgrounds, including youth who drop out of school, those from periphery communities and young people with special needs.
“Over the past two years, the program operated successfully at several beaches in Ashdod, and in light of reports we received about reduced violence, crime and loitering among teenagers in town, we decided to expand the program to six other cities,” said Labor and Social Services Minister Haim Katz, who wished the participants “an enjoyable summer.”
