Al-Sadr wants big turnout for anti-US demonstration April 9

The office of radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr has called for a "million-strong" turnout for a proposed anti-American demonstration next week to mark the fifth anniversary of the capture of Baghdad by invading US troops. Thursday's statement says protesters should head to the Shiite holy city of Najaf south of Baghdad waving Iraqi flags "to cement the unity of Iraq and demand its independence." The demonstration is to mark the anniversary of the entrance of invading US troops to Baghdad on April 9, 2003. The statement calls on protesters to "raise high your voices high in the skies of Iraq against the oppressing occupier," a term the Sadrists use to describe US-led forces.
