Annan frets about spiralling violence in Gaza

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan expressed concern on Monday about the escalating violence in the Gaza Strip and Israel. A spokesman for Annan said that the secretary general called on the Palestinian Authority to take definitive steps against violence and to endeavor to thwart rocket attacks and suicide bombs. Annan urged Israel to avoid reprisals which could endanger the lives of innocent civilians, Israel Radio reported.
