Mubarak in Turkey to discuss Middle East issues

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will discuss the situation in Iraq and the new Palestinian government during a two-day visit to Turkey that began Thursday, officials said. Mubarak, who is scheduled to meet with President Ahmet Necdet Sezer and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, is also expected to discuss a deal reached between Egypt and Cyprus to mark out sea boundaries that would allow the divided island's Greek Cypriot government to begin exploring the eastern Mediterranean for gas and oil. Turkey has warned Egypt not to proceed with the deal, saying Turkish Cypriots also have rights in the region. Turkey and Egypt are part of a group made up of Iraq's neighbors that are working to resolve the crisis in Iraq. Turkey is likely to host a high-level international conference on Iraq in Istanbul in April.
