Roadside bomb kills US soldier in Baghdad

A roadside bomb killed a soldier in Baghdad, the military said Friday, raising to 33 the number of American forces who died in the first week of this month. The soldier was killed Thursday when the explosion struck a Multi-National Division - Baghdad patrol that was conducting joint operations with the Iraqi army to prevent sectarian violence in a western neighborhood of the city, the military said in a statement. With the soldier's death, 33 American deaths have been reported in the first seven days of December. At least 2,921 service members have been killed since the war started in 2003, according to an Associated Press count.
