Captured IDF soldier Gilad Schalit's conditions are better than those of Palestinian prisoners in Israel, said a senior Hamas official in an interview with the Arabic language daily Al Hayat.
The official, Mousa Abu Marzook, stated that Schalit is given his full rights unlike Palestinian prisoners.

He added that Schalit is not allowed visitors because that would compromise the secrecy of his hiding place.
Abu Marzook said that if Israel knew of Schalit's whereabouts in Gaza and could not gain his release, it would bomb the location in order to kill him. This would endanger the lives of Palestinians living in the vicinity.
There is no connection between the blockade of Gaza and the imprisonment of Schalit as Israel claims, according to Abu Marzook.
He said that negotiations to reach a deal between Israel and Hamas which would allow for the release of the Israeli soldier are currently frozen.
Schalit has been imprisoned by Hamas since 2006.
