'Lebanese officials arrest man for conspiring with Israel'

Lebanese Homeland Security issues statement that man was sending intelligence coordinates, detailed information on Hezbollah to Israel.

Lebanese securitry forces have arrested a Tyre resident in Southern Lebanon for espionage on Israel's behalf, Lebanese Arabic-language daily Al-Manar reported a Lebanese Homeland Security statement as saying Monday. The suspect was supposedly working with Israeli intelligence since 2006 until early 2011.
According to the statement, the arrested man had "provided [Israel] detailed intelligence information and studies on the general situation in Lebanon, as well as information on his various relationships with different Hezbollah communities and their approaches to their concept of resistence," as well as information on the "sectarian division of Tyre residents," in relation to Hezbollah and the "extent of cooperation between them."

The arrested man also reportedly provided Israel with intelligence coordinates in Tyre and Abbassieh, both in southern Lebanon.
Authorities said that the investigation of the suspect will continue and the findings will be sent to Lebanese state prosecutors.
Last December, Israel sustained a blow to its intelligence-gathering capabilities in Lebanon, after the Lebanese military claimed soldiers discovered and dismantled two spy cameras planted in the country’s mountains by Israel.
One of the long-range spying systems was placed on Mount Sannine, which overlooks Beirut and the eastern Bekaa Valley, and the second was on Mount Barouk, southeast of the capital, the army said in a statement. The military was tipped off about the systems by Hezbollah, the statement had said.
