Aharonovitch calls for centralized emergency services
Public security minister calls for unifying all emergency services under his command, says independent probe into Carmel fires is not necessary.

Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch called for all emergency services, including the beleaguered Fire and Rescue Service, to be centralized and operated under the auspices of his ministry during a speech at the Herzliya Interdisciplinary Center on Wednesday night."The time has come to gather all emergency services under one roof - the Public Security Ministry," Aharonovitch added.RELATED:Livni slams PM's handling of fires as 'media act'Lindenstrauss: 'Fire readiness falls on Yishai's shoulders'The minister added that there was no need for a special committee of investigation to be formed, saying that "we should simply apply the conclusions that are already on our desks," referring to the report by State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss released on Wednesday."Examination is critical... but a committee of investigation is not the way," he added. Aharonovitch added that the Carmel fire disaster "shows us the real picture of what we can expect in future events, like an earthquake, a hazardous chemicals incident, a mega-terrorist attack, or war.""The world is developing into two camps, those seeking destruction and those seeking peace. The weapons of mass destruction that could reach the hands of lunatics, overcrowding and even the global climate... are just some of the reasons why any state can find itself in a national disaster, disasters that would unfortunately be considered a success if they end 'with only dozens of casualties,'" Aharonovitch added.
