Jilted lover stabs woman to death in Jerusalem

Police suspect 30-year-old man killed his former partner after she ended relationship; man attempted suicide after attack.

A Jerusalem woman in her thirties was stabbed to death in the early hours of Friday morning in her home in the city.
Police suspect that the woman was stabbed by her 30-year-old partner after she informed the suspect that she wanted to end their relationship. The couple were together for the past two years and had recently broken off their relationship, according to the police.
After stabbing his partner, the man took household cleaner from the victim's apartment and drank it in an apparent attempt to commit suicide. He was in critical condition on Friday.
The stabbing took place at the victim's apartment on Ben Zvi street in the capital. At the time of the incident the victim had a friend from the United States staying at her house who called the police after the stabbing.
Police began a search of the area near the victim's apartment and the suspect was found with the murder weapon shortly after.
Both suspect and victim were in critical condition when brought to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem for treatment.
According to the police report, the couple had no previous criminal records or reports of domestic violence.
