Police on Thursday charged a 25-year-old resident of the Beduin town of Arur, in the Negev, with opening fire on a wedding tent and killing a guest.

According to the Negev subdistrict central unit, a father and two adult sons were upset by the driving of one of the guests last month. The three men blocked the path of the guest’s car. They then allegedly produced firearms, prompting the driver to hit the gas and drive toward the wedding tent to escape.

“The elder son chased after the car [on foot], opening fire in its direction and at the wedding tent, and hitting a guest inside the tent. The gunshot victim, a Lod resident, was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries,” police said.

“This is a severe incident in which an innocent guest lost his life. We prioritized this investigation in order to solve the murder,” police added.

A homicide detective team, the majority of whom are Beduin police officers, led the investigation, and arrested the father and his sons.

The father and the younger brother, aged 23, were charged this week with opening fire in a residential area, making threats and giving false testimony, while the 25-year-old was charged with murder.

“He admitted to the shooting,” police said.
