Man who 'heard voices' allegedly stabs, seriously wounds 7-year-old niece in Netanya

Police arrest 38-year-old man who allegedly attempted to kill niece in order to bring about the coming of the Messiah.

A seven year-old girl was stabbed in the neck and seriously wounded at an apartment in Netanya on Monday night.

Police arrested the victim's 38-year-old uncle for allegedly carrying out the violent act. The suspect told police that he heard voices which told him to kill his niece in order to bring about the coming of the Messiah.

Police recovered the knife used to commit the crime in the apartment.

An initial investigation found that the suspect took his niece for a walk, eventually leading her to his apartment where he stabbed her. The suspect himself is believed to have been responsible for calling emergency services to save the girl's life.

MDA paramedics transported the victim to Laniado Medical Center in serious, but stable condition. Police officers who arrived together with the paramedics arrested the suspect.
