A 32 year-old woman from Silwan in east Jerusalem was arrested Sunday for allegedly attempting to stab a policeman outside the Shalem police station.
The policeman brought the woman under control, and no injuries were reported. Police say the attack may be linked to the anti-Islam film "Innocence of Muslims" that mocks the Muslim prophet Muhammad and portrays him as a buffoon.
The film sparked in recent weeks outbursts of violence and protests all over the Arab world in which the US ambassador to Libya and three other Americans were killed in an attack in Benghazi and other US embassies were stormed in cities in Asia, Africa and the Middle East by furious Muslims.
On Friday, Israeli Arabs protested in front of the US Consulate in Jerusalem, as well as at al-Jazzar Mosque in Acre, and on Thursday in front of the US Embassy in Tel Aviv, Channel 10 reported.
Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, 55, a Coptic Christian who lives in California has been linked to the film in media reports.
Initial reports described the filmmaker as Sam Bacile, a self-described “Israeli Jew” and now a Los Angeles property developer, who said that the $5 million movie was financed by donations from 100 Jews.
