Social justice movement set for 'March of the Million'

Movement set to hold marches and rallies in towns large and small across the country; gov't increases train, bus services in preparation.

Social protest movement organizers were preparing to launch the “March of the Million” in several cities across the country on Saturday evening.
The demonstration is being billed as the climactic street protest of a movement that has seen tent cities sprout up and forced quality-of-life issues into the forefront of the political debate.

A list of where and when rallies will take place in various areas is as follows:
Tel Aviv: The march will leave HaBima Square at 8 p.m. and assemble in Kikar HaMedina at 9 p.m. The procession will head toward Marmurak Street, and then to Jabotinsky Street before arriving in Kikar HaMedina.
Speakers at the rally will include protest organizer Daphne Leif, the writer Eshkol Nevo, and Sherry Tanenbaum. Performing acts include Eyal Golan, Hadag Nachash and stars of the television show Eretz Nehederet.Jerusalem: March leaves from Gan Hasus at 9 p.m. and the rally begins at Kikar Paris at 10 p.m.
Speakers include Orna Banai, Modi Bar-On, Bambi Sheleg, Itai Gottler (Chairman of the Student Union at Hebrew University), and Chen Golan and Meirav Peles (Jerusalem's protest leaders). Performing acts include Yitzhar Ashdot, Carolina and Shlilit "Ma Kashur?"Afula: March will leave the tent city at 8:30 p.m.
Arad: March will leave Gan HaHamisha at 8 p.m. toward the rally in Arad Center.Carmiel: March will leave at 8 p.m. from the main entrance to Carmiel at the Route 85 interchange toward the rally at Ofira Park.
Eilat: March will begin at the Simchon Community Center at 9 p.m.
Hadera: March will leave the Piazza at 8:30 p.m.Haifa: March will leave from Kikar Meyerhoff 8:30 p.m. and the rally begins at 9:30 p.m. at the German Colony.
Hod Hasharon: The demonstration will leave from the tent city at Gan HaGiborim near the municipality.
Kalansawa: Rally will be held at Kikar Hamecha'a.
Kfar Yehoshua: Rally will take place in the field next to the Kfar Yehoshua interchange at 9 p.m.
Kiryat Shmonah: March will leave from the tent city to Park HaZahav at 8:30 p.m.
Nahariya: March will leave from tent city in Nahariya Junction at 8 p.m., rally begins at Naharia City Hall plaza at 9.p.m.
Mitzpeh Ramon: March will begin at 9.p.m. at the Shuk Plaza.
Modi'in: March will leave from the tent city to Shilat junction at 9.p.m.Nes Tziona:Rally will begin at 9 p.m at HaKenioter Plaza.New York City: A demonstration will take place in Washington Square Park at 2 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).

The High Court of Justice ruled on Friday that the Transport Ministry would run increased numbers of trains and replacement bus services on Saturday night, to allow people to travel to Tel Aviv to take part in the "March of the Million" protest.
The emergency hearing was the result of a petition filed by attorney Shraga Biran of the 'Awakening In Jerusalem' social movement, after Israel Railways announced plans to close the Jerusalem - Tel Aviv and Beersheba - Tel Aviv lines on Saturday night.
The petition argued that the rail line closures made it impossible for those without private transport to travel to Tel Aviv to attend Saturday night's social justice protest march.
As part of the judgment, made by Supreme Court Justice Hanan Melzar, Israel Railways have placed a notice on their website stating that extra trains will run on the Tel Aviv coastal line and that the Transport Ministry will run replacement bus lines on the Tel Aviv-Beersheba and Tel Aviv-Jerusalem routes.
