An IDF soldier attempted to light himself and his commander on fire on Sunday at the Kirya Military Base in central Tel Aviv.The soldier poured flammable liquid on himself and his commander, but soldiers standing nearby subdued him before he could start a fire. No one was injured in the incident.According to Channel 10, the soldier's actions came after his commander refused his request to be discharged from the army.Several Israelis suffering from economic and emotional distress self-immolated or attempted self-immolation in Israel over the summer.The wave of such acts in Israel began on July 14, when social justice protester Moshe Silman set himself on fire at a Tel Aviv protest.Silman died a week later of his burns, and was followed by a disabled IDF veteran who died after lighting himself on fire at a gas station outside Yehud in late July.
