Five Arab youths were indicted at Jerusalem Magistrate Court Wednesday after being arrested last week in east Jerusalem for allegedly hurling Molotov cocktails at the IDF base, Ofrit, adjacent to the Hebrew University on Mount Scopus.
According to the indictment, from August through November the defendants – all of Issawiya and aged 14- 15 – conspired on at least 10 occasions to hurl the glass bottles, filled with flammable liquid, at military and civilian vehicles entering or exiting the base’s access road.
They repeatedly attempted to burn down the base’s perimeter fence, the indictment stated. The suspects allegedly worked in groups of two, one as a lookout and the other as the assailant.
The indictment stated that on two occasions on November 11, after accomplices in a separate group identified targets, the defendants threw the flammable weapons at a civilian vehicle, causing another fire. Later that evening the suspects supposedly hurled six Molotov Cocktails at the fence of the base, setting it alight.
