Two men in a car opened fire on a local man in Bnei Brak Sunday night, leaving him on the pavement in critical condition with gunshot wounds to his upper body in what police believe was a botched underworld hit.The victim, 24-year-old Yehuda Katlan, has been a target of police investigations in the Dan subdistrict. According to police he has a record of drug and property crimes.Katlan was standing on Hashomer Street near what is commonly referred to as the Coca-Cola junction at about 10:30 p.m. when he was shot by two men in a passing car before they fled.Magen David Adom paramedics hooked him up to a respirator and rushed him to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer, where he was hospitalized with serious wounds.On Monday morning, police working the case arrested two suspects at Ben-Gurion Airport as they were attempting to board a flight to Spain. They were taken for a remand hearing at the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court, where they were ordered to be kept in custody until Sunday.Both are residents of Petah Tikva and known to police.Also in Bnei Brak on Monday, police found the body of a 24-year-old man lying dead in a drainage ditch off the city’s Hatzvi Street.Police said the victim, who was reported missing by his parents on Saturday night, most likely had been murdered. They added that evidence found at the scene suggested foul play.They added that he had a criminal record, but said his death was not related to the attempt on Katlan’s life.
