The Histadrut labor federation is preparing a general strike for next week after negotiations with the Finance Ministry over the conditions and employment terms of contract workers failed, Histadrut Chairman Ofer Eini told Army Radio Thursday morning.
Eini said the Finance Ministry thwarted plans to transfer a number of contract workers to conditions of full government employment, despite goodwill efforts by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

"The prime minister surprised me with his willingness to advance talks," Eini said, expressing hopes that negotiations will be renewed and the strike will be prevented.
