As a UN special envoy, Jolie has visited some of Israel's Arab neighbors; in 2009 the two movie stars lunched with the Assads in Damascus.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the glamorous Hollywood couple dubbed "Brangelina" in tabloid headlines, were married in France, according to media reports on Thursday.
Pitt, 50, and Jolie, 39, tied the knot on Saturday, the reports said. The Associated Press first reported the news.
Both celebrities, who are raising six children, will star in an upcoming film "By the Sea," written and to be directed by Jolie, who will also co-star and co-produce the drama with Pitt.
They last co-starred in 2005's "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," which sparked their relationship.
Jolie, who is a UN special envoy, has been in neighboring Middle Eastern countries a number of times to advocate for refugees. In February of this year she  arrived in Lebanon to visit with Syrian refugees in the Bekaa Valley.
Jolie traveled to Syria in 2007 and again in 2009 to meet Iraqi refugees with Pitt. During the 2009 trip, President Bashar Assad and his wife Asma, recalled to Vogue Pitt's fear over the lack of security while they were on their way to lunch together.
"My husband was driving us all to lunch," Asma told Vogue, "and out of the corner of my eye I could see Brad Pitt was fidgeting. I turned around and asked: 'Is anything wrong?' 'Where's your security?' asked Pitt. So I started teasing him – 'See that old woman on the street? That's one of them! And that old guy crossing the road? That's the other one!'"
 
"Brad Pitt wanted to send his security guards here to come and get some training," the Syrian president quipped.
Jolie is a fan favorite in Israel. In 2006, for the fourth straight year, the American movie star topped 'Blazer' magazine's list of the world's 100 sexiest women.
