Bats take over house set to be renovated

Family decides to move back into uninhabited Ashkelon home, renovators find more than 100 bats living in the building.

When the owners of an abandoned house in Ashkelon recently decided to renovate and return to their home, workers discovered that more than 100 bats had taken over the building, the Ramat Gan Wildlife Hospital and the Israel Nature and Parks Authority announced on Monday.

In the family room of the house there were 20 lactating females with pups, many of whom were very weak due to the fact that the mothers were stuck inside the house and were unable to bring in food. INPA inspector Omri Buchnik was called to the scene, and the bats soon after arrived for 24 hours of intensive care at the Wildlife Hospital, the organizations said. sharonAfter their treatment, the bats were transferred to the Beit Guvrin caves and have now successfully returned to nature, according to the INPA.
