The Morningside Translations Warriors wrapped up their regular season in style,
beating RiseHi 8-5 at Gezer on Friday to finish the season with a 12-2 record
and secure the #1 playoff seed.
The victory was Morningside’s fifth in a
row and the third time in four meetings they have beaten the defending champions
this season.
The Warriors jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the second
inning thanks to a two-run blast by cleanup hitter Nossie
Jacobovitch.
That was all the support starting pitcher Avi Dzik needed,
as he cruised through the Rise- Hi lineup giving only one earned run. Dzik
induced harmless fly balls one after another, allowing the Warriors to win
despite just 13 hits on the day.
Jacobovitch was the Warrior’s offensive
star, going 3-for-4 at the plate with 4 RBI’s. Leftfielder Yanky Itzkowitz
scored three times and had a pair of doubles.
As the #1 seed in the
playoffs, the Warriors will host Ginot Shomron in the semifinals. The
winner of that game will face the winner of RH against OI in a best of three
final series.
“We’re ready,” said manager Aron Heller. “The
regular season is over. Now it’s time for us to earn our keep.
“The
playoffs is where you separate the men from the boys.”
