Mondays heat up at Ga’ashThe final round of league matches in the night cricket Cup League produced some magnificent games, with each game being decided in the last over of the match.
Telalivit won both their weekend matches, overcoming inHasharon by 28 runs and Lions Modi’in by four runs to finish in top spot and set up a semifinal clash with inHasharon, who surprised most by defeating Lions Modi’in by 29 runs.
Modi’in, which boasts three current Israeli national players (David Massil, Shai Bangera and Eshkol Solomon) came unglued against a determined Telalivit team that set out to avenge the loss that Lions handed to them earlier in the season.
Telalivit was struggling on 35 until the last pair of Herschel Gutman and Gras Jack put on 32 to elevate the total to 67.
Modi’in showed why they are title contenders and took the game to the very last over, needing 12 but managing only eight.
It was a disappointing end to the league campaign for Lions Modi’in – who finished in third place behind the dangerous Sri Lanka, who they will meet in the second semi final on Saturday evening.
Simon Minitzer, Telalivit’s reliable opening batsmen said after the victories, “the league has been magic.
We’ve muscled our way to the top against some very good opposition. We can see the finish line and we desperately want to get to the final so we can win it.”
Elsewhere, in the Plate league, the much anticipated derby between the KAT Israemploy Warriors and the Kat Israemploy Tigers was won by the Tigers by 23 runs. A fine all-around performance from Kat star Ron Sher and a brace of wickets by young Eli Shaw were the highlights.
This week, runaway leaders Pearl Wanderers CC play second- place Pommeranz Juice Good Old Boys in what could be a dress rehearsal for the final.
PWCC captain and Israeli international cricket player Daniel Hyman said “this is a crunch match for both teams, I hope that the PWCC team puts in the same outstanding performances they have done in the past to keep our unbeaten record in tact.”

Hopes soared and pulses raced as the teams of the Red & Dr. Murray’s Basketball League battled it out in the first-round of the playoffs, each trying to earn a berth in the quarterfinals.
In the first of two heartpounding nail-biters, Seftel beat Hamoshava 54 by the skin of their teeth in overtime. The score was tied at 41-41 at the end of regulation, but Seftel was ultimately able to emerge with the 43-41 OT triumph.
In the next thriller, Samuel Adelsberg & Co. star Benjy Ritholtz managed an extraordinary shot to take a one-point lead over Caramel/Waterproofing Experts with only three seconds left in the game.
However, Max Feldstein answered with an incredible running jumper at the buzzer, giving Caramel the win, 43-42.
In an upset, Avery-Nart defeated MMJ 58-48 to advance to the Elite Eight.
Likewise, Café Rimon was victorious over the Quitnesses 67-49, earning themselves a spot in the second round.
Golf: Mondays heat up at Ga’ash
The fourth Monday’s Tour tournament was completed this week in extremely harsh conditions at the Ga’ash Golf Club.

Nearest-to-the-pin prizes, sponsored by the Greenfield restaurant, went to Endy Nemiroff and Yuval Harrary.
