Despite only being added to the delegation the week before the Beijing Games, Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or smashed the Israeli record in both the 100m and 200m Freestyle, finishing in a very respectable 15th place in the 200m.However, following that promising showing four years ago, Shapira’s potential remains unfulfilled.The former European youth medalist did finish the 200m free in 15th place at last year’s World Championships, but missed out on the final of the event in the recent European Championships and there are some question marks regarding his form ahead of his second Olympics.Click for full JPost coverageShapira will be the only Israeli swimmer to compete in three events in London, but he has no realistic chance of progressing to the semifinals in the 100m free or 100m fly.Nevertheless, despite yet living up to the sky-high expectations, Shapira remains one of Israel’s most consistent swimmers, something he will be looking to prove by reaching a second straight Olympic semi in the 200m free.
