J’lem edges Northern Whites in Metulla

Games We Play: Jerusalem goalie turns away 25 shots in the Israel Recreational Hockey League at Metulla’s Canada Centre.

In a fast-paced, hard-fought game, Jerusalem edged the Northern Whites 6-5 in the Israel Recreational Hockey League at Metulla’s Canada Centre.
Jerusalem goalie Chaim Goldzweig turned away 25 shots while center Yoav Marer scored twice, and left winger Avi Deitcher notched a single in the third period to earn the victory. Leonid Sandler rounded out the scoring for the winners.
Rookie IRHA player Tuvia Aronson scored two goals in his debut for the Whites, and Benjy Hirsch worked his way up to the second line by some solid two way play. The Whites also had goals from Shahar Dahan and Nimrod Gluckman, both of whom started their hockey careers at Israel’s first rink in Kiryat Motzkin 23 years ago.
Registration remains open for new players wanting to join the five-team league, which will host its fifth annual international tournament in February with teams from the USA, Canada and Europe expected to join. For more info on the league or tournament, write to Israel–Hockey@Hotmail.com.
