A 120th minute goal by CSKA Moscow forward Jo snatched a 3-2 victory for the Russian champions over intracity rival Spartak Moscow in the final of the Russia Channel One Cup at Bloomfield Stadium on Thursday night. Besides securing bragging rights, CSKA also received a $1 million check for its efforts in Israel and sent a worrying message to Maccabi Haifa, which it will face in the UEFA Cup in less then two weeks. After a goalless first half, CSKA grabbed the lead in the 52nd minute, thanks to Dudu Cearense, but six minutes later Spartak equalized after midfielder Roman Pavlyuchenko scored. The goals continued to come in quick succession and CSKA regained the lead in the 68th minute after another of its talented Brazilians, Ramon, turned the ball in. CSKA was only three minutes away from getting its hands on Roman Abramovich's check, but Pavlyuchenko came to Spartak's rescue, tying the score and sending the match into extra time. However, CSKA wasn't to be denied the pride and the money, and secured the victory in the last minute of extra time with Jo's powerful header.
