In the Israel Baseball Premier League’s opening playoff game, Jerusalem beat Tel Aviv 4-1 behind a complete game one-hitter hurled by Senior National Team ace, Orr Gottlieb.
Gottlieb held the Comrades hitless through seven innings, and was helped out by shortstop Ilan Klein’s spearing Dan Rothem’s one-hop smash, but the bid was eventually broken up on an infield single.
The game was knotted at 1-1 in the fifth inning, until rookie Yehuda Joffe lined a single to leftfield that drove in two Jerusalem runs.
The Reds later added another run following Yoni Alter’s triple to the leftfield gap.
With the win, Jerusalem advances to the championship play-off series next week against the winner of the Ra’anana-Modi’in single elimination game, scheduled for Wednesday night.
Golf: Mondays Tour returns to Ga’ash
The Mondays Tour returned to the Ga’ash Golf Club with a four-man alliance, two scores to count 75% handicap tournament earlier this week.
The tournament was played in windy conditions and on a well prepared course.
Finishing in first place was the team of Gary Van der Molen, Mike Ossip, Alex Sagy and Alex Rudoy with an 11-under par 129 strokes.
In second place, just one stroke behind on a 130, were Shmulik Almagor, Salomon Levy, Stanly Stern and Yuval Harrari.
Nearest to the pin prizes went to Richard Fogelson and Miki Herzog.
Ga’ash is now preparing for the International Pairs tournament, to be held at the end of June.
